Nate Louwagie is a registered patent attorney with experience counseling clients across a variety of industries in complex intellectual property disputes. He is a zealous advocate who takes pride in identifying winning arguments and clearly articulating them in briefing and oral argument. He also enjoys managing complex cases involving interrelated factual and legal issues, technical subject matter, and high stakes for his clients.

Nate focuses on complex patent litigation in federal district courts, representing clients in disputes that require a deep understanding of the technology, careful development of case strategy, and effective advocacy at trial. He played a critical role on the Carlson Caspers team representing Oxygenator Water Technologies in its patent infringement litigation against Tennant Company. Following a jury trial, the jury found infringement and willfulness on all counts and awarded the full amount of damages requested. The court subsequently entered a final judgment of just over $20 million, including enhanced damages and interest. Nate managed the case from beginning to end, played a key role at trial, and examined multiple witnesses, including both parties’ damages experts. The team also successfully defended against an inter partes review proceeding involving one of the asserted patents.

In another matter, Nate worked on a team representing a defendant in patent litigation that used an inter partes review to invalidate 114 of 117 asserted patent claims and ultimately recover more than $1 million in attorneys’ fees for its client.
